We're diaspora folk.

We didn't see Jews like us in movies growing up.

I doubt my hometown even had a minyan.

I inhabit the threshold between wild and civilized spaces; something like the wilderness, like the journey through the desert, somewhere between advanced civilization and wild mystical holy land.
